1 What it covers

Basic Training for Service on Ships Subject to the IGF Code (STCW V/3) evidences basic training for ships using gas or other low-flashpoint fuels under the IGF Code. It is needed by personnel with designated safety duties relating to these fuels. Validity: as issued; competence shown every 5 years.1–3

2 What it consists of

The standard of competence is set by table A-V/3-1 of the Code.1,2

3 Validity and renewal

Document validity. The expiry date, if the issuing system sets one, is shown on the document itself. This reference does not calculate personal expiry dates.

Maintaining competence. Every 5 years the seafarer shows maintained competence, through refresher training or relevant service within the previous 5 years.3
