What a seafarer CV contains

A seafarer CV, also called an application form, is what a crewing agency or shipowner reads to decide whether you fit a rank: your qualification and training certificates with numbers and expiry dates, and the ships and ranks you have served in. The Rynda Crewing CV has these sections:

Personal details and contacts
date of birth, nationality, city, phone, email and messengers. Contacts are never shown in the open catalogue.
Contract preferences
expected salary, contract length, sailing areas and availability.
Qualifications
your qualification document for the rank, with number and expiry date.
Documents
passport, seafarer identity document, seaman's book, medical certificate.
Training certificates
STCW training: basic safety training, survival craft, fire fighting, ECDIS, GMDSS, tanker courses and others, each with its expiry date.
Visas
if you hold any.
Sea experience
ships in order: type, deadweight, main engine and power, flag, company, rank and period.

Names crewing agencies use

Agencies name the same things differently. What they usually mean:

CoC (certificate of competency)
The qualification document of a master, officer or GMDSS radio operator under STCW
CoP (certificate of proficiency)
A rating qualification or a training certificate under STCW, such as basic safety training
SIRB, CDC, discharge book
National names of the seaman's book
Sea service
Your ships, ranks and periods
Availability
The date you can join a ship

How to fill in your CV

  1. Sign up as a seafarer with your email.
  2. Upload your old CV as a file or photos of its pages: the platform fills in the fields. You can also fill them in yourself.
  3. Choose your rank and check your documents: numbers and expiry dates.
  4. Add the ships you have served on, starting with the latest.
  5. Apply for jobs and download your CV as a PDF.

How we help

  • We read your documents

Upload your CV as PDF, Word or Excel, or up to 8 photos of its pages, up to 10 MB. The platform reads your certificates, documents and sea service, fills in the fields and uses standard document names. You only check them. 2 files can be recognised every 30 days.

  • We watch expiry dates

Your account home shows which documents expire soon or have expired. When a document expires, you get an email the next day and again a month later.

  • We explain documents

The seafarer documents guide explains what a certificate proves, who needs it and how long it is valid, with the primary source.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. Seafarers never pay for job placement: the CV and the PDF are free, and so are applications, up to 30 in each monthly period. Replies to employer invitations do not count towards this limit.

Who can see my CV?

Employers on the platform: in crew search and in the applications you send them. An employer gets your contacts through a mutual application or within their plan. In the open catalogue your CV is shown without your name, contacts or photo, and only with your consent.

How long should a seafarer CV be?

As long as your sea service needs. The CV lists every ship with type, deadweight, engine, flag and period, so an experienced officer has more pages than a cadet.

Should I add a photo?

Crewing agencies usually expect one. A photo is optional in the CV, and it is never shown in the open catalogue.

What documents should a seafarer CV list?

Your qualification document, passport, seafarer identity document, seaman's book, medical certificate and STCW training such as basic safety training, each with number and expiry date.

Can I download it in Word?

The CV downloads as a PDF in light or dark theme. There is no Word template: the CV is filled in online, and you can upload an old Word CV to fill in the fields.
