How river hiring differs from sea-going hiring
Inland-navigation crews are hired for the navigation season rather than for a voyage contract. The season opens when the ice goes and closes before freeze-up, and crews are topped up throughout it, so an advertisement posted in May is often still live in August.
River ranks are certified separately from sea-going ones under the Regulation approved by order No. 87 of the Russian Ministry of Transport dated 12.03.2018. A sea-going diploma does not replace a river one, and the platform keeps the two catalogues apart: there are no sea-going vacancies in the river feed.
The river fleet also has combined ranks that have no sea-going equivalent: master-engineer, motorman-helmsman, skipper-motorman. On the platform each of them is a rank of its own, not a pair of separate ones.

Is a sea-going diploma valid on inland waterways
No. River ranks are certified under the Regulation approved by order No. 87 of the Russian Ministry of Transport dated 12.03.2018, and a sea-going diploma does not replace a river one. The reverse is also true.
Why does an advertisement show a date that has already passed
In a river advertisement the date usually marks the start of the navigation season rather than a deadline. Crews are topped up throughout the season, so such postings stay live. We label the date as taken from the advertisement and do not present it as the employer commitment.
What happens in winter
Some companies keep the crew for lay-up and repairs, others hire for the navigation season only. Ask before signing. Year-round work is more typical of mixed-navigation river-sea vessels.
